Home : Procedures : Dermatology Surgical Services
To provide the highest quality dermatology surgical services, our dermatologists are trained in extensive surgical techniques of the skin and mucus membranes. Although some of the dermatology surgical services that we perform may be purely for cosmetic reasons (such as repairing an earlobe after an ear piercing, or surgical removal of acne scars on the face), most of the surgery performed by dermatologists in our group is for medical reasons.
These medical reasons may include removal of skin cancers and moles. This is considered excisional surgery. Other types of surgical techniques commonly used in a dermatologist's office include cryosurgery (liquid nitrogen), commonly used to treat warts and precancerous lesions and electrosurgery, which can also be used to remove benign and malignant skin lesions.
Sometimes a dermatologist will need to take a biopsy of the skin. This means taking a small piece of the skin for examination under a microscope in order to make definite diagnosis. All of our surgery is done on an outpatient basis.
